The
ideal book for Teacher’s Course students, ESOL (English for Speakers
of Other Languages) teachers, trainees, intermediate/advanced EFL (English
as a Foreign Language) / ESL (English as a Second Language) students and anyone
seeking a better grasp of contemporary American culture.
You will experience the
unique diversity, problems and values of Americans and how they live and think
in the new millennium as Ana Kovach and Professor Harlan, the main characters
in the book, exchange sensitive, observant e-mails.
For use in the classroom,
there are discussion questions and conversation activators at the end of each
of the ten chapters. There is also a DVD that shows Ana and the professor
writing and reading the first of the e-mails that they will exchange throughout
the book. After this scene from the preface of the book, the DVD shows some
of the cities and states in the United States which will be visited and described
by Ana on her travels across the country. These destinations include Washington,
D. C., South Carolina, Colorado, Utah, and New York City. These video clips
can be used when the teacher feels they will be appropriate to enhance the
students’ grasp of contemporary American culture as it is presented
in ADNM. They are an excellent means to inform, illustrate and complement
the material presented in the book.
